PSI Opened the Second Batch of Legislative Candidate Enrollment

Partai Solidaritas Indonesia has opened the second batch of Legislative Candidate recruitment for the 2019 election. Grace Natalie, the Chairwoman of PSI stated that a competency test at the open interview along the recruitment process  will be held by members of the Independent Selection Committee/Panitia Seleksi Independen (Pansel).

In addition to the Judge names that already enlisted on the first batch, there will be  additionals from Independent Selection Committee; Todung Mulya Lubis – a senior Advocate, Azyumardi Azra – the former Rector of UIN Jakarta, Muhammad Chatib Basri – the former Minister of Finance, Clara Juwono – an International Relations Specialist, Natalia Soebagjo – a female notable figure, Bivitri Susanti – an expert in Law practices, Goenawan Mohamad – a notable Author, and Atika Makarim – a Social Activist.

“Interviews shall be held openly for the public able to recognize the candidates. All these times people vote without a disclosed track record of Candidates.” said Grace in the press release on Wednesday (3/1/2018).

The main idea of this Candidate selection process is a belief that Political Party holds an extremely essential role in Indonesia. However,  there has been no internal reforms in Political Parties ironically.

According to Grace, “One of major challenges in the Political Parties is an undisclosed recruitment system for Candidates. It is no wonder, corruption for example, still come to pass rampantly.”

PSI eager to build a new culture and standards. The Candidate recruitment process will be held professionally and transparently. When the process and the system are improved, the expectation for better quality Legislative Members is assured.

In the previous first batch, there were 1,155 Applicants. Out of 146 Applicants who participate in the interview session, PSI determined 57 are granted, 58 are granted with proviso, while the other 31 Applicants are considered unsuccessful.

“In this second batch, I wish there will be more females who sign up. It is still very less. Hopefully at least a third of the Candidates are females.” said a member of the Committee, Mari Elka Pangestu.

In addition to Mari, the Committee Member roster who enlisted in the first batch are: Mahfud MD –  the former chairman of the Constitutional Court, Bibit Samad Rianto  – the former Commissioner of Corruption Eradication Commission/Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK), Henny Supolo  – an education practitioner, Neng Dara Affiah – the former Commissioner of National Female & Children Commission/Komnas Perempuan & Anak, and Djayadi Hanan – a Political Observer.

Coming up next to the line, there will be: Asep Iwan Iriawan – a former Judge and a Legal expert, Tuti Hadiputranto – a senior Advocate, Ade Armando – a Lecturer in Communication of Universitas Indonesia, Zainal Arifin Mochtar – a Lecturer at Faculty of Law of Universitas Gajah Mada, Hamdi Muluk – Professor in Psychology of Universitas Indonesia, Sri Budi Eko Wardhani  – a Lecturer in Political Science of Universitas Indonesia, and Seto Mulyadi – the Chairman of Indonesia Children Protection Institute/Lembaga Perlindungan Anak Indonesia (LPAI).

The Enrollment for second batch will be closed on February 28, 2018.
